Winning ways are here to stay as the Brewers sweep two games against the Twins, plus trade deadline and Chourio talk
The Crew are red hot!
The Milwaukee Brewers have hit the ground running after the much needed All-Star break. This week’s two-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins makes it five wins from six as we near the home stretch.
Tuesday’s series opener was another game filled with drama and late heroics. Luis Urias’ sac fly in the bottom of the 9th inning proved to be the difference in securing the Brewers a 7-6 win.
Wednesday’s matinee finale was relatively stress free. The bats came alive, especially Rowdy Tellez who provided a pair of three-run homers. Milwaukee would ultimately coast to a 10-4 victory.
Adam and Andrew happily recap the wins against the Twins, talk about the trade deadline again, check in on Jackson Chourio, and look ahead to a roadtrip against the Boston Red Sox at historic Fenway Park.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 99 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Rowdy Tellez 🍺
Big Randy, as Christian Yelich dubbed him while mic’d up during Wednesday’s YouTube broadcast, bounced out of his slump in a big way. Rowdy slugged two three-run homers, one in the first and one in the fourth, propelling the Brew Crew to an easy 10-4 win.
Christian Yelich 🍺
Big Randy’s buddy might as well start getting his mail delivered to the base-paths. Yelich finished the series 3-for-6 with four walks and two doubles, constantly finding himself on base. Mic’d up Yeli revealed to opponent Carlos Correa that he has been experimenting with changing up his swing, lessening his leg kick and implementing a quieter toe tap. So far, so good!
Luis Urias 🍺
Wicho is locked in right now. Against the Twins, Urias finished the series 4-for-6 with two walks, two homers, four runs scored, and four RBI. His sac fly in the 9th inning on Tuesday gave him his second walk-off within the last five days.
Jonathan Davis 🍺
Jonathan Davis only played in the first game of this series, but he did his job and then some. A 1-for-2 performance at the plate with a walk and a single is nice, but he earned a beer for his defensive contributions. Davis made several outstanding catches that saved extra base hits and potential runs. He made catches running back to the wall, he made catches charging in towards the infield, Davis did it all.
Jandel Gustave 🍺
After a tough series against Colorado, Gustave turned the page against the Twins providing back to back quality outings. Gustave’s line for the series consisted of two innings pitched, no walks, one hit, two strikeouts, and no runs allowed.
Andrew McCutchen 🍺
Cutch reached base in exactly half his plate appearances in this series, which has to be rewarded. He didn’t hit for much power, but when you live on base that can be pushed aside. McCutchen finished the series 3-for-8 with three singles, two walks, and two runs scored.
Kolten Wong 🍺
Kolten Wong earns a point in back to back series, this time adding some power to the mix. Wong went 3-for-7 with a home run, a double, a pair of walks, four runs, and one RBI.
