Week 12 Cheeseboard
Some high-grade cheddar handed out after Pack strike gold against San Francisco
The San Francisco 49ers limped into Lambeau Field on Sunday and Green Bay did exactly what they were supposed to and beat the bricks off ‘em in a dominant 38-10 win.
As such, there are a lot of candidates for cheeses this week including an obvious choice. Let’s hand out some cheese.
Week 12’s candidates
Josh Jacobs: 26 carries, 106 rushing yards, 3 rushing TDs (86.3 PFF grade)
Xavier McKinney: 3 tackles (all solo), 2 pass breakups, 1 INT (73.7 PFF grade)
Quay Walker: 7 tackles (6 solo), 2 TFL, 1 pass breakup (91.6 PFF grade)
Javon Bullard: 7 tackles (6 solo), 3 catches allowed on 4 targets for 18 yards (84.9 PFF grade)
Rashan Gary: 2 tackles, (1 solo), 1 sack, 1 forced fumble (62.2 PFF grade)
Lukas Van Ness: 2 tackles (all solo), 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 QB hit (82.9 PFF grade)
Keisean Nixon: 3 tackles (none solo), 1 forced fumble, no targets and no receptions (83.3 PFF grade)
Week 12 Cheeses
🧀 Josh Jacobs 🧀
The Packers star running back arguably had his best game in a Packers uniform against the 49ers on Sunday rushing for 101 yards and three touchdowns — the first Packer to do so since Dorsey Levens on Jan. 2, 2000. Jacobs has been performing well all season, but I think he has been really hitting his stride in the offense as of late. In his last four games, he has 404 yards, six touchdowns and seven catches for 69 yards. Pretty nice if you ask me. Further, we’re a little halfway through the season and this man still has the juice. Look at this first run from scrimmage against San Francisco.
Nevermind the great play design — more on that later — Jacobs spins to break the tackle and get a dozen more yards. That sort of intensity is what this offense feeds on and he’s bringing it week in and week out.
🧀 Xavier McKinney 🧀
Another ho hum week for X. Nabs his league leading eighth interception and has a huge pass break up on 4th down to turn the ball over on downs. Just an impact all around. He’s currently has the fifth best odds to win NFL defensive player of the year which just seems crazy. Get that man higher folks.
🧀 Quay Walker 🧀
In what was arguably his best game ever as a Packer, Quay showed multiple flashes of who he is supposed to be as a former first round pick. Seven tackles, a pass break up that should’ve been caught and multiple tackles for a loss is what the doctor ordered for Quay with Edgerrin Cooper sidelined due to injury. I saw this video from Daire Callagher on Twitter, but this play embodies what the Packers need from Quay.
Tough, hard-nosed pursuit of the ball resulting in a tackle for a loss on one of the most dynamic running backs in the NFL. He doesn’t get lost in the scrum of offensive lineman, he bursts through the rolling out line and gets McCaffrey down. If the Packers can get this Quay. Phew buddy.
🧀 Brian Gutekunst and Matt LaFleur 🧀
The general manager and head coach earn a cheese this week based on their body of work and the results thus far this season. Brian Gutekunst went out and made arguably two of the best free agency signings of the offseason. Jacobs and X have been the two best players on the team this season I think without a doubt. Then you have a Matt LaFleur who having to work Malik Willis into the lineup early in the season unlocked some amazing actions (see Jacobs run above) in the run game and has negotiated injuries very, very well. He should win coach of the year, but this league is cruel he left without holding the award he most certainly deserves once again this year.
