Struggles continue as Brewers get swept by the Phillies
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains.
The Milwaukee Brewers continue to struggle as they look to overcome injuries and inconsistency. After a sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies, they have now lost six games in a row and eight of their last nine.
This series had it all. It featured Josh Hader’s first two runs allowed of the season, a 10-0 blowout, and Nick Castellanos not having a big hit during a tragic or controversial moment. Anything is possible, folks.
The Crew will look to turn things around with three games against the lowly Washington Nationals before journeying to the Big Apple for a tough test against the New York Mets.
With beloved co-host Adam McGee under the weather, Ti Windisch joins the podcast to commiserate and give his thoughts on the most recent batch of difficulties.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 59 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Christian Yelich 🍺
Yelich returned to getting on base with regularity this series. He got a hit in every game, including multi-hit games to bookend the series. Craig Counsell experimented with Yelich at the leadoff spot in the second and third games of the series. Given his plate discipline, this could be the move that jumpstarts his season and sets the table for the power bats in the middle of the order.
Rowdy Tellez 🍺
Rowdy is Mr. Consistent. As with Yelich, he recorded a hit in every game of the series and also had a particularly tidy series defensively at first base. Will Rowdy run away with the title of Master Brewer? It sure seems that way!
Hoby Milner 🍺
It was time to reward Hoby Milner for what he’s done in the bullpen this season. In a series where things went wrong for much of the pen, Milner settled things down. He pitched a pair of scoreless innings which brought his season ERA down to 2.70 over 23.1 innings. So far this has been the best season of his career.
