Rowdy takes his revenge on Toronto in series win for the Brew Crew, and a look at trade candidates
Brewers batter Blue Jays in series finale to win 2 of 3
The Milwaukee Brewers welcomed Canada’s only MLB team to town this weekend (RIP Expos) and met them with hostility instead of hospitality. After a tough loss in the first game of the series, the Brewers bounced back to win the final two games.
Corbin Burnes helped get the winning started by pitching deep into the 8th inning on Saturday, which led to a 5-4 win. Sunday’s finale was the day Rowdy Tellez would get his revenge on the team that traded him to Milwaukee last summer. Sure, the trade has worked out perfectly for Tellez and it’s obvious that he couldn’t be happier in Milwaukee, but what’s sport without a little theater.
Tellez’s two homers sparked a dominant 10-3 win on Sunday and the Brewers find themselves back on top of the NL Central. Adam and Andrew recap the series and talk about trade candidates as the long season rolls on.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 75 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Corbin Burnes 🍺
The Brewers needed an ace in Game 2 of this series and they got one. Burnes delivered 7.2 innings pitched with three earned runs and nine strikeouts to help the Crew secure a 5-4 win. I propose making every Corbin Burnes start a holiday in the state of Wisconsin.
Willy Adames 🍺
Adames’ damage against the Blue Jays consisted of a 4-for-14 batting line with one double, one walk, four runs, and three RBI. Because of how much his power at the plate stands out, it’s sometimes easy to forget how valuable Adames is on defense. His five outs above average ranks 5th in MLB according to Statcast.
Tyrone Taylor 🍺
Tyrone Taylor’s solid play continued as he settles into his role as the Brewers everyday centerfielder. Taylor’s 4-for-11 series was highlighted by a homer and double. He also drove in two runs and scored three.
Rowdy Tellez 🍺
Rowdy Tellez’s struggles in the first game of this series were completely overshadowed by his dominant performance in the series finale. Rowdy launched homers in both the first and second innings, serving as judge, jury, and executioner to his former team in Milwaukee’s 10-3 win.
Andrew McCutchen 🍺
Andrew McCutchen has been red hot in June, he’s currently batting .313/.409/.463 with three home runs and 13 RBI. Against Toronto he finished 3-for-11 with a walk, a homer, a run, and three RBI. Cutch’s resurgence will be crucial in Milwaukee’s late season push towards another NL Central crown.
