PODCAST: Determining which Milwaukee Bucks will make the NBA All-Star team
Giannis is obviously an All-Star, but will Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday make the cut?
The only NBA All-Star question for Giannis Antetokounmpo is if he or Kevin Durant will be voted captain of the Eastern Conference squad, but on the latest episode of the Gyro Step podcast Rohan and I dug into Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton's chances, plus Bobby Portis’, since he is campaigning for himself (and having an awesome season!).
Rohan and I agreed only one out of Jrue and Khris has a strong case this season, although I think there’s a slight chance both of them get in. We predictably did not spend all that long on Bobby’s case — while he’s having a career year, it’s not an All-Star caliber season. At least not in the Eastern Conference…
We shared our full All-Star teams for both conferences, although as indicated by Rohan wondering about Bobby’s potential case there at the end of the show, the Western Conference All-Star convo was mostly us complaining about the field. Seriously, the third bench frontcourt spot in the West is dire.
Finally, near the end of the episode I shared a wild lineup statistic we had fun discussing for a few minutes. I’ll include it here too: the Bucks are dominating teams when Jrue Holiday and Wes Matthews play together, to the tune of a +28.8 net rating across 10 games. The Bucks are 9-1 when those two play together in the same game, and their two-way dominance has been seriously impactful. We have no apology for turning into a Wes Matthews fan podcast (and newsletter).
