PODCAST: Breaking down the Bucks bench after a bummer in Charlotte
After a depleted version of Milwaukee's bench managed just 5 points in Charlotte, we decided to evaluate the whole unit.
The Milwaukee Bucks had to rely on some deep bench players for their game against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday night, and while they'll usually have more juice than they did in that loss Rohan Katti and I decided to do a deep dive on Milwaukee's entire bench to identify strengths, weaknesses, and any ways that unit may be lacking.
After all, when a bench unit comes up with just 5 points despite having a typical minutes load across 4 players it seems worth discussing, even if a series of injuries and positive COVID tests left them depleted. Especially since another player who is typically coming off of the bench managed just 3 points on 11 shots.
We went in order of minutes played and discussed every player, so the discussion starts with Pat Connaughton and ends with Sandro Mamukelashvili and covers everybody on the roster in between outside of the five usual starters (Jrue Holiday, Grayson Allen, Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Bobby Portis).
After the individual player breakdowns, we summed up our thoughts on the state of the bench, and what, if anything, may be missing. Yes, if you were wondering, we did mention DeMarcus Cousins and how the team could’ve really used what he adds! Have fun in Denver, Boogie.
