Bucks Stock Market
Welcome to the official start of the Bucks Stock Market! This is a fictitious market run by the GSPN crew that tracks player stock “movement” following the conclusion of every game.
Giannis Antetokounmpo 📈
As the confetti was falling from the rafters of Fiserv Forum ad Giannis was crying with his championship hat on back in July, the great Mike Breen said the night was ending “in a coronation.” Breen could have meant the crowning of a new champion, but he also could have been referring to the crowning of a new alpha in the NBA. Well, the King secured his crown against the Nets.
While he started taking some questionable shots early, Giannis eased into form and showed that there are exactly *zero* players in the NBA that are capable of stopping him. Just like his opponent, Kevin Durant, defenders can realistically only hope that Giannis misses at this point. But unlike Durant, Giannis showed that he can dominate the game with his scoring, playmaking, and defense simultaneously.
Jordan Nwora 📈
OH. MY. GOODNESS. Ever since he first stepped onto an NBA court, Bucks fans have been clamoring for the Louisville kid to see rotational minutes. Last year, the take among Bucks’ cognoscenti was that he needed to improve his defense and playmaking in order to see significant playing time for Mike Budenholzer. BUT NOW, IT DOESN’T MATTER.
Sure, he’s still not great at either of the two aforementioned deficiencies, but he blocked KEVIN DURANT so that’s good enough for me.
Khris Middleton 📈
Still unable to get any sort of respect from the officials, Khris Middleton was ready to take advantage of any height mismatch that came his way. Unlike seasons in the past, it is nice to see him get into a (mid range) shooting rhythm early in the season rather than having to round into form as the season progresses.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo 📈
This really was a perfect game for me. I got to see the Bucks get their rings, a dominant win against the Nets, and Thanasis Antetokounmpo prove me right that he’s worthy of rotational minutes. With Bobby Portis and Semi Ojeleye out with injury, Thanasis stepped up in the big rotation and played a near-perfect game.
Pat Connaughton 📈
I knew Pat had a good scoring night, but looking at the box score and seeing that he was the Milwaukee’s third-leading scorer with 20 points made my jaw drop. He showed flashes of brilliance while finishing at the rim while also leading the team in makes from behind the arc.
Jrue Holiday📈
Though he only played in the first half due to a right heel contusion (for which an MRI has come back clean, according to Mike Budenholzer), Holiday looked excellent. Sure, a lot of that was due to him hitting his jumpers, but he was back to playing his usual brand of tenacious defense while also playmaking for a team that has desperately needed coherent offense at points. Jrue is primed for a MASSIVE season.
Milwaukee, WI 📈
This section is purely for sentimental purposes. This team, this franchise, and this city got to take their victory lap through that ring ceremony. It is a testament to what hard work can do, and I know it drives me to be get better every single day.
The Bucks will be back in action against the bubble frauds (Miami Heat) on Thursday, October 21st!
