Pirates swept aside as Brewers pick up some momentum, Master Brewer Leaderboard (Pittsburgh)
Brew Crew grab four straight wins with a friendly schedule lying ahead
The Milwaukee Brewers are streaking as, thanks to a series sweep over the Pittsburgh Pirates, Craig Counsell’s team are now up to four consecutive wins going into their first off day since they got their season started.
Sure, the Pirates may not be the most formidable opponents the Brewers will face this season, but both collectively and individually the past few days have provided plenty of cause for cheer for Milwaukee baseball fans.
To talk about all of that and more, Jordan Treske emerged from the GSPN bullpen to provide me with some top notch relief innings as my regular co-host Andrew Snyder continues to live it up in the UK.
Jordan also stepped in to help with another essential responsibility, acting as the casting vote in our deliberations for the latest Master Brewer Leaderboard update.
Master Brewer Leaderboard
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Rowdy Tellez 🍺
The Brewers home run and RBI leader to this point in the season, Rowdy Tellez continued to impress as he built on those totals against the Pirates. Home runs on consecutive days in Games 2 and 3 of the series further emphasized just how effortless everything looks for Rowdy right now.
Corbin Burnes 🍺
Two outlier home runs took a little gloss off Burnes’ third start of the season on a superficial level, but make no mistake, the reigning NL Cy Young winner looked dialled in against the Pirates. Allowing just four hits in seven innings, and with 10 strikeouts for good measure, Burnes had complete control at the mound and set things up perfectly for what proved to be a stress free close-out scenario in a 5-2 win.
Brandon Woodruff 🍺
Just like Burnes, Woodruff is looking better with each passing game right now. Just a single hit in his six innings spoke to Woodruff’s command at the mound, even if he admitted after the game that he hadn’t felt like he had his best stuff heading into the game. Nine strikeouts offers plenty to feel good about, and in a game that did get a little tense late on, Woodruff having kept the ledger clean in terms of Pirates runs proved essential when all was said and done.
Josh Hader 🍺
Locked in to a groove already, Josh Hader added two more saves to his tally as he was very close to flawless against Pittsburgh. Just one hit allowed vs three strikeouts in his two combined innings is impressive, but even more impressive is the ease with which Hader is getting the job done. He’s already sharing in the overall MLB saves lead with six for the season, he appears to be climbing franchise leaderboards with every outing, and he’s barely breaking a sweat in doing so as he keeps his pitch count admirably low.
