The Milwaukee Bucks Come Up Clutch with Gary Trent Jr. Pickup
The Milwaukee Bucks put a bow on their offseason by agreeing to a one-year deal with veteran sharpshooter Gary Trent Jr.
Leave it to the Milwaukee Bucks to save what is likely their final move of the offseason to be their biggest and most impactful.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported Tuesday afternoon that the Bucks have agreed to a one-year deal with veteran sharpshooter Gary Trent Jr. Trent comes to Milwaukee after three and a half seasons with the Toronto Raptors and was left standing as the biggest name on the market more than two weeks after the start of free agency.
It’s not been a kind summer for Trent by any means as he sought a big money deal that didn’t surface in the first full free agency period under the most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Michael Grange of Sportsnet – a long-time Raptors beat reporter – recently tweeted that the Raptors weren’t willing to go beyond an average annual value of $15 million on a deal to bring back the sharpshooter. With negotiations breaking down between Toronto and Trent, the market opened up for him and he was left to size up what options remained in free agency.
Bucks fans have certainly circled Trent’s name for a while now as the team still had one more spot open on their roster. The Athletic’s Shams Charania recently linked the Bucks and Trent together before the two sides came together for a deal. While Trent now comes to the Bucks on what will be a ‘prove it’ deal, he will have a chance to go back into free agency next summer to seek what he thought was coming to him this year.
