Can the Milwaukee Bucks Strike Gold in the 2024 NBA Draft?
The Milwaukee Bucks will look to do what they have not been able to do much over the last decade when the 2024 NBA Draft is held this week.
The 2024 NBA Draft is finally upon us this week. The intrigue ramps up as the questions over how this draft class stacks up to past years washes away. Everyone loves the thought of endless possibilities that awaits the future of each and every prospect once they hear their name called on draft night.
The Milwaukee Bucks will enter this year’s NBA Draft armed with the no. 23 and no. 33 overall picks. Whether they can find contributors immediately or down the road with either or both picks is the question that will be on the minds of all Bucks fans this week.
It’s a very simple truth that the draft has not been that valuable for the Milwaukee Bucks since they struck gold with the franchise-altering pick of Giannis Antetokounmpo more than a decade ago.
This year marks the eighth draft that Bucks general manager Jon Horst has overseen. Over Horst’s watch, he’s found greater success in striking it rich with shrewd pickups in free agency or making calculated gambles on the trade market. It certainly helped the Bucks found their path towards contention and on their way to a championship three summers ago.
The draft has increasingly grown irrelevant in terms of the Bucks’ overall roster building. These aren’t the ‘Green and Growing’ Bucks anymore and they haven’t been for a very long time. The fact that the last time the Bucks extended a second contract to a player on their rookie-scale deal (Grayson Allen) before he had even played a game with the franchise speaks volumes in this department.
