Mark Canha grand slam delivers signature Brewers moment in series win over Nationals
The Brewers can nearly taste the division title
The Milwaukee Brewers continued to put distance between themselves and the Chicago Cubs this weekend. They welcomed the Washington Nationals to town and sent them back to our nation’s capital with two losses.
Friday’s series opener saw The Crew go down 3-0 in the first inning, but Wade Miley steadied himself and pitched into the 6th inning with no further damage. A William Contreras three-run bomb and two homers from Carlos Santana led to a 5-3 comeback win.
Saturday featured fireworks. After seeing a 5-1 lead slip away, Mark Canha crushed an 8th inning grand slam which gave the Brewers a 9-5 victory. They lost Sunday’s finale 2-1 as the bats failed to fire against Patrick Corbin and a base-running blunder in the 10th inning cost them a walk-off win.
Their lead in the NL Central is now 6.5 games over the Cubs and seven games over the Reds. This week’s schedule sends the Brewers to St. Louis for four games against the Cardinals.
