Injury-plagued Brewers lose series to Detroit but finish on a positive note with a win
It's always best to end a tough series with a win
The injuries have finally caught up to the Milwaukee Brewers, as they’ve lost back to back series for the first time all season. This time it came at the hands of the lowly Detroit Tigers.
Detroit won the first two games of the series due to Milwaukee’s struggles at the plate. The Crew combined to score just five runs against the Tigers, struggling to muster anything against Spencer Turnbull, Matt Boyd, and Detroit’s bullpen.
The series would, however, end on a high note. Freddy Peralta looked near his very best and the offense finally got clicking in a 6-2 win on Wednesday afternoon. Next up on the schedule is three games against Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and the Los Angeles Angels.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 25 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Freddy Peralta 🍺
Freddy Peralta was on his game on Wednesday afternoon, providing an essential start to end the losing streak. His fastball had velocity, the breaking balls were missing bats, and his changeup was baffling lefties. The 22 swings and misses across six innings is a new career high for Fastball Freddy.
Joel Payamps 🍺
I owe Joel Payamps an apology. I thought he would be the odd man out of the bullpen on Opening Day, until Adrian Houser’s injury opened up an opportunity. Instead he has had a very solid start to the season. He added two scoreless innings to his season tally this series, while striking out a pair of Tigers.
Bryse Wilson🍺
Wilson provided his usual multiple inning stint on Monday, throwing two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. He also recorded two outs in the 7th inning on Wednesday, as Craig Counsell showed a willingness to turn to him in a high leverage situation.
Jake Cousins🍺
Welcome back, Jake Cousins! After Matt Bush was placed on the injured list Cousins got the call from Nashville. Cousins walked two batters in his 1.2 innings of work, but he also compiled three strikeouts and his slider looked formidable.
Devin Williams🍺
It was only one inning of work in a non-save situation….but Devin Williams just keeps getting the job done. Until he allows a run this season he may just get a beer for every series he appears in.
Peter Strzelecki🍺
Peter Strzelecki continued his excellent work to start the season. He also was the subject of a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article about pitching on the anniversary of his father passing away. It’s always important to remember that these elite athletes are human beings with families, emotions, and hardships just like everyone else. Strzelecki’s journey to the big leagues has been inspiring for many reasons.
Elvis Peguero🍺
Elvis Peguero saved the rest of the bullpen after Eric Lauer’s tough start on Tuesday. Peguero tossed three scoreless innings to help keep The Crew within striking distance after they fell behind 4-0.
Victor Caratini 🍺
Victor Caratini has played well in his limited role. Milwaukee’s backup catcher provided a two-run homer on Wednesday to create some breathing room. He also added a single to finish his day 2-for-4 with two RBI.
