Christian Yelich officially set for season-ending surgery, but the Brewers stay in touch at the top of the NL with series split against the Dodgers
It was a good news/bad news type of week.
The Milwaukee Brewers turned frowns upside down in the final two games of a four-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers this week. The Crew bounced back from losses Monday and Tuesday to secure a hard earned split.
Sometimes a series split feels like a series win. That’s definitely true when your opponent has Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, and Freddie Freeman at the top of their order
Monday’s 5-2 loss was a “tip your cap game”. The first two of the aforementioned trio drove in all five runs and Milwaukee’s young bats couldn’t crack the Clayton Kershaw code. Tuesday saw Colin Rea’s roughest outing in a month and the Dodgers slugged their way to 7-2 win.
The bounce back started on Wednesday thanks to a clutch 7th inning RBI single from Jackson Chourio and Devin Williams looking downright filthy while nailing down the save in a 5-4 triumph.
Thursday’s afternoon finale saw a 3-0 lead disappear, but never fear, Jackson Chourio is still here. Chourio’s 8th inning leadoff double started a rally that turned a 4-3 deficit into a 6-4 lead. Devin Williams was dominant again in the 9th and Milwaukee ended the series with back to back wins.
The home-stand comes to an end this weekend as the Brewers take on the first place Cleveland Guardians. Of course, the news of the week is now the season-ending back surgery that Christian Yelich has just announced. Get well soon, Yeli!
