Bucks Stock Market: Milwaukee implodes at home against a depleted Brooklyn team
For a team that focuses on building good habits there weren't many on display Saturday night.
The Bucks Stock Market is a fictitious market run by the GSPN crew that tracks player stock “movement” following the conclusion of every game. Here’s the spreadsheet logging the game-by-game results.
Well, that was a bummer. The Milwaukee Bucks found a way to both have a nightmare third quarter and blow a fourth quarter lead in yet another disheartening loss to a potential playoff opponent Saturday night, this time against the Brooklyn Nets. The typical cocktail of Bucks disappointment was again served up to fans watching, as Milwaukee missed 13 of their 38 attempted free throws, turned the ball over 14 times to Brooklyn’s 7, and took some truly baffling shots when all they had to do was drain the clock and get to the rim up 7 with less than half a quarter to play.
Bobby Portis 📈
This game was so ugly it’s hard to give an upstock to any Buck, but Bobby Portis was one of the lone bright spots as he poured in a team-high 30 points on 11/18 shooting and 8/14 three-point shooting. Bobby also added 12 rebounds and didn’t turn the ball over at all, although his slow shot release ended up in him getting stuffed on a crucial late game three-ball attempt.
Giannis Antetokounmpo 📉
Yes, Giannis nearly scored as much as Bobby did. He also only made just 8 of his 20 attempted shots, missed 5 of 6 attempted threes, turned the ball over 4 times, and managed just 6 points on 6 shots in the fourth quarter while at one point missing both free throws in a trip to the line when Milwaukee had a 7 point lead. Giannis will basically always have eye-popping stats, but this was a disappointment by his lofty standard.
Grayson Allen 📉
It’s been a disjointed season for basically all of the Bucks, but it’s still concerning to see games where Grayson Allen just kind of floats through without doing much of anything. Grayson took 4 shots all game, scored 7 points, missed a crucial free throw after drawing a dubious three-shot foul, and his only other contributions were an assist, a rebound, and a turnover. It still seems to be his worst games are both on him and on the coaching staff — getting him some more designed plays would be nice, but the Bucks don’t tend to script much offense in regular season games and you’re not going to constantly funnel shots to the fifth-best starter. Allen needs to be moving and finding the ball in rhythm more often.
Milwaukee is back at it on Monday night at 7 pm when they take on the Charlotte Hornets, which happens to be a Gyro Step Playback game!
