Another Milwaukee Bucks season is upon us, which means in addition to having the entire season covered here at the Gyro Step Podcast Network, it means that the Bucks Stock Market is back!
For those who are unfamiliar, the Bucks Stock Market is a fictitious market run by the GSPN crew that tracks player stock “movement” following the conclusion of every game. In other words, if a player has a performance above what we consider baseline, they receive an up stock, while a sub-baseline performance earns them a down stock. However, one issue that we’ve run into over the years is that the market would seem unbalanced due to the fact that every player has a different baseline, yet everyone starts at an even 0 stocks to at the beginning of the season. That is why we saw last season end with apocryphal results such as Khris Middleton and Jordan Nwora being tied at two stocks, while someone like Bobby Portis had 10. To circumvent this issue, we bring you to the crux of this post: the 22-23 Bucks Stock Market will have an IPO!
To set this initial public offering, we consulted last season’s final results (which can be found here) as well as our own roster rankings and groupings. This allowed us to craft a starting stock value for each player on the roster, as well as coach Mike Budenholzer and general manager Jon Horst:
Giannis Antetokounmpo - 34
Jrue Holiday - 25
Khris Middleton - 22
Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton - 14
Wesley Matthews, Brook Lopez, Grayson Allen - 10
Jevon Carter - 6
George Hill, Jordan Nwora, Serge Ibaka - 3
Joe Ingles, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Sandro Mamukelashvili, MarJon Beauchamp - 2
AJ Green - 1
Mike Budenholzer, Jon Horst - 5
The first stock movements for each individual will be made based on these numbers, and the rest of the season shall proceed from there.
You can track all of the movements on the Bucks Stock Market after each game on the Gyro Step Podcast Twitter, so make sure to give that account a follow if you haven’t already. Full-season results are located on the Gyro Step/Win in 6 page on our website, GSPN.info.
We’re so excited to experience this Milwaukee Bucks season with each and every one of you!
