Brewers win series finale against Washington to end the losing streak
If they win Tuesday, it's called "two in a row". And if they win again Wednesday, it's called a "winning streak"... It has happened before!
The losing streak is over. Sure, the Milwaukee Brewers continued their losing skid in the first two games of the series against the Washington Nationals, but a Sunday afternoon 4-1 win ended a streak of eight straight losses.
The win tied Craig Counsell on the franchise wins list with Phil Garner at 563. The Crew welcome an off day on Monday before pressing on with this road trip that next consists of three games against the New York Mets.
Ti Windisch makes another strong relief appearance as we await Adam McGee’s return from the injured list. Get well soon, pal!
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 62 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Christian Yelich 🍺
Leadoff Yelich is real and it’s spectacular. His 6-for-14 series included a homer, one RBI, and three runs scored. Yeli truly looks like he can be the table-setter this lineup needs at the top of the order.
Andrew McCutchen 🍺
Cutch might be back. After his slump with the bat, he seems to be returning to form. Against Washington he finished 5-for-12 with two RBI and four runs scored. A consistently on base Andrew McCutchen gives a much needed boost to this Milwaukee lineup. We know he can come up clutch in a big moment, pairing that with consistent production takes his value up a level.
Jace Peterson 🍺
Jace may not have had have had a dominant series, but he still added value. He complemented a three run homer with his usual stellar defense at third base. He sits at fifth on the outs above average leaderboard this season with three. My “Jace Peterson for Gold Glove” agenda continues to grow stronger and stronger.
Omar Narvaez 🍺
Having Omar Narvaez back in the lineup regularly should be huge for the Brewers. Victor Caratini has been excellent, but we all know what the 2021 All-Star Narvaez is capable of both with the bat and behind the plate. In two games against the Nats he went 3-for-7 with three singles and a walk. He also cut down a would be base-stealer with a great throw to second base.
Jason Alexander 🍺
The Brewers needed a starting pitcher to keep them in the game and that’s exactly what Alexander did. 4.2 innings pitched while allowing 10 baserunners may not be pretty, but Alexander pitched his way out of most of the trouble and that’s what matters most. The right-handed ground-ball specialist has now compiled a 2.16 ERA over 16.2 innings.
Hoby Milner 🍺
Similarly to Alexander, Milner met the moment in Game 3 of this series. He entered a game in a stressful situation and got out of it unscathed. His 2.1 innings of scoreless relief lowered his season ERA to 2.45.
