On Friday night, things seemed to be returning to normal for the Milwaukee Brewers. Eric Lauer pitched well. The offense scored five runs. Rowdy Tellez even stole a base during the 5-1 win! There were also some delightful moments of comedy from Andrew McCutchen being mic’d up on the AppleTV broadcast.
However, the good vibes would not last. Saturday night saw Aaron Ashby struggle with command, death by one thousand solo homers, and the Brewers comeback fall short in a 7-5 loss.
A stellar outing by Corbin Burnes and a 9th inning game-tying Keston Hiura homer were wasted on Sunday. Extra innings got away from them quickly thanks to an infield single and a throwing error, leading to a 4-2 defeat.
Adam and Andrew discuss the series and look ahead to an important week.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 108 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Rowdy Tellez 🍺
I was ready to give Rowdy a beer as soon as he recorded the stolen base. Speed kills and speed thrills, friends. Tellez also added a homer, three walks, one run, and two RBI. His lead on the Master Brewer Leaderboard is starting to look insurmountable.
Christian Yelich 🍺
Death, taxes, and Christian Yelich getting on base a ton. Despite an 0-for-5 line on Sunday, Yelich managed to get on base six times in this series. Yelich finished 4-for-12 with two walks and two runs scored.
Keston Hiura 🍺
Hiura’s back from Nashville and he’s ready to do what he does best. Keston had two hits in six at-bats this series and you won’t be shocked to learn that both the hits were homers. Hiura’s homer on Saturday got the Brewers back into the game by turning a three run deficit into a one run deficit, while his homer Sunday tied the game in the 9th inning.
Corbin Burnes 🍺
Corbins Burnes returned to form on Sunday, bouncing back from a rocky performance against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Burnes’ final line included six innings pitched, two hits, two walks, one earned run, and nine strikeouts.
Eric Lauer 🍺
Eric Lauer helped the Brewers to their lone win of the series with an outstanding performance in Game 1. Lauer threw seven innings, scattered nine baserunners, and only allowed a single run.
