It’s been a tumultuous week for the Milwaukee Brewers. For fans it has been exhausting, I can’t imagine how the players are feeling. The week started with an emotional and surprising trade that sent Josh Hader to the San Diego Padres for Taylor Rogers and prospects. The bullpen was further bolstered with trades for Matt Bush and Trevor Rosenthal, however the team failed to trade for an impact bat.
Oh yeah, there was still baseball to play. The Brewers jumped out to early leads on both Tuesday and Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Walks caught up to Corbin Burnes on Tuesday and a five run 6th inning would be enough to hand The Crew a 5-3 loss.
Freddy Peralta made his return to the starting rotation on Wednesday by tossing 3.2 innings with two earned runs and three strikeouts. Another problematic 6th inning helped erase a 4-2 Brewers lead. A back and forth game, that featured another O’Neil Cruz homer and a dramatic Brewers comeback, would eventually end thanks to a Bryan Reynolds walk-off homer off of Devin Williams.
The pain would not end there! Thursday afternoon’s series finale would see the Brewers lose in extra innings. A Matt Bush wild pitch got past Victor Caratini to seal the 5-4 win for the Pirates.

Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 105 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Rowdy Tellez 🍺
Rowdy’s consistency continued, even in the midst of a disappointing series. Rowdy finished the series 5-for-11 with a walk, one homer, one double, a run scored, and three RBI.
Christian Yelich 🍺
Yelich had a good series with three hits and a pair of walks, but the highlight of his series came from the dugout. After some horrific umpiring, Yelich got ejected for arguing balls and strikes. Craig Counsell, defending his player admirably, also was ejected. I imagine it was very cathartic.
Willy Adames 🍺
Willy Adames showed some great composure in big moments against the Pirates. A 5-for-15 series for Adames included a homer, a double, two runs, and five RBI. Despite the homer and the double, his two-out RBI singles may have been his most impressive at-bats of the series.
Kolten Wong 🍺
Kolten Wong’s consistency with the bat was complemented by stellar defense this series. Wong finished the series 5-for-11 with one walk, one double, one home run, one run scored, and three RBI.
