The Milwaukee Brewers (and yours truly) went down to Atlanta for some baseball games. The Atlanta Braves came out on top all three times. Baseball can be painful sometimes, friends.
Friday saw Adrian Houser struggle after the Brewers initially staked him to a 2-0 lead. Abraham Toro’s 8th inning three-run homer made the scoreboard look a little friendlier, but at the end of the day it was still a 10-7 loss.
Saturday was likely the end of Julio Teheran’s time as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers’ starting rotation. He allowed nine runs to his former team in an 11-5 Atlanta triumph. In the finale, the Brewers took the lead on three separate occasions only to relinquish it immediately. An 8th inning Matt Olson homer was the death blow in an 8-6 loss.
Next up is a trip to our nation’s capital to face the Washington Nationals. Tuesday’s trade deadline also looms large as The Crew could try and add another bat and/or relief help.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 106 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
William Contreras🍺
William Contreras had a great weekend against his former organization. Contreras ended his series 6-for-14 at the plate with three doubles, a homer, two runs scored, and five RBI. His OPS is up to .800 for the season.
Abraham Toro🍺
The aforementioned home run in Friday’s 8th inning was Toro’s second as a Brewer. He also added in a pair of singles, two runs, and four RBI. The Brewers will take offense wherever they can get it, so it will be interesting to monitor how they view Toro’s role after trade deadline.
Sal Frelick🍺
Frelick contributed with his base-running, bat, glove, and arm against Atlanta. He had two hits, two walks, an outfield assist, and made some outstanding catches in right field. Frelick has certainly been shot in the arm for the Brewers during his rookie season.
Brice Turang🍺
Brice Turang had three hits and two walks against the Braves and if there’s anything that we do on this podcast it’s rewarding guys for getting on base. Moneyball memes until the sun swallows the earth.
Andruw Monasterio🍺
Andruw Monsterio has settled into the everyday third base role since Brian Anderson went down with his back discomfort. He had three singles, two walks, and even turned a nice double play on Sunday afternoon. He’s another player who has a role that could shift depending on how the trade deadline shakes out.
Joey Wiemer🍺
Wiemer came up with two clutch hits to drive in runs this series. He also had an outstanding outfield assist after keeping a ball in the park that was nearly a home run. It’s not always pretty, and his struggles against right-handed pitching have been significant, but at least once a series it feels like Wiemer does something exciting.
