Brewers sweep the World Series champion Rangers, trade for Dallas Keuchel
This podcaster is high on Brewers optimism
The Milwaukee Brewers have bounced back from a tough series against the San Diego Padres by sweeping the World Series champion Texas Rangers. The series was a perfect representation of all the ways this Brewers team can find a way to win.
Monday’s series opener saw the game broken wide open after Rhys Hoskins’ 6th inning grand slam. Freddy Peralta labored through five innings with only two runs allowed and three scoreless innings from Jared Koenig, Joel Payamps, and Trevor Megill helped nail down a 6-3 win.
Tuesday night, the Brewers prevailed thanks to six scoreless innings from Bryse Wilson as the bulk reliever (Hoby Milner allowed one run in two innings as the opener). A Jackson Chourio RBI single, a Joey Ortiz solo homer, and a Rhys Hoskins RBI single proved to be enough offense in a 3-1 win.
Wednesday’s afternoon finale brought us the Brewers debut of Dallas Keuchel. The even innings proved punishing for Keuchel, but the Brewers battled back anyway. After a Jake Bauers grand slam made it 4-1 Brewers, the Rangers put up a four-spot in the top of the 4th to give Texas a 5-4 advantage.
Jackson Chourio evened things up with an inside the park homer and Andruw Monasterio won the game with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning. Break out the brooms and enjoy the day off!
Next up is three games against Craig Counsell and the scuffling Chicago Cubs. Can the Brew Crew bury them in the American Family Field dirt? We sure hope so.
