Brewers sweep double header against the Giants as Corbin shows out
Well that was a lovely day for baseball.
It’s a wonderful day for ballgame, let’s play two! Thursday saw the Milwaukee Brewers play a pair of games against the San Francisco Giants. After two tough losses against the Colorado Rockies, the Brewers were in desperate need of a win.
Corbin Burnes delivered the goods in the first game, as he threw an absolute gem to lead the team to a 2-1 win. It was Corbin’s best start in some time and was an absolute joy to watch.
The second game of the doubleheader started with a three-run Brewers first inning. The Crew capitalized on walks, an Evan Longoria error, and a sac fly. Freddy Peralta had to leave due to right shoulder fatigue, his velocity was once again down significantly, but a few members the bullpen excelled in his absence.
A 4-2 win meant a doubleheader a sweep and good vibes heading into the weekend. Next up is three games at home against the Cincinnati Reds. Another sweep would renew hope for a Wild Card run in Milwaukee.
Adam and Andrew are joined by GSPN’s Ti Windisch, as they try to find the joy in a day of winning that was like an oasis in the desert.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 138 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Corbin Burnes 🍺 🍺
That’s our ace! 2021 Corbin Burnes made an appearance in Game 1 of Thursday’s doubleheader. Burnes pitched like a Cy Young winner when the Brewers needed it most. He finished his day with eight innings pitched with only one run allowed, three hits, no walks, and 14 strikeouts.
Peter Strzelecki 🍺
Strzelecki recovered nicely from a tough outing against the Colorado Rockies. Faced with early relief duty due to right shoulder fatigue from starter Freddy Peralta, he delivered a pair of hitless/scoreless innings to move Game 2 forward with a 3-0 Brewers lead in tact.
Taylor Rogers 🍺
Another reliever recovering from a tough game against the Colorado Rockies was Taylor Rogers. Rogers closed things down against the Giants with no runs allowed, no hits, no walks, and three strikeouts. That’ll work, friend.
Christian Yelich 🍺
Yeli’s 1-for-5 with two walks, two runs, and one RBI may not look impressive, but hey, the man was on base all day. We’ll take run production and being on the base-paths frequently whenever we can get it.
