The Milwaukee Brewers went down to Florida and left with two wins. As far as trips to Florida go, that’s about as good as it gets. This series saw the return of Brandon Woodruff and Kolten Wong as the team continues to get healthy.
Woodruff was dominant in Game 1 and the Brewers showcased their power across both games. They scored nine of their ten runs on homers and the tenth run came on a Luis Urias double.
A couple of 5-3 wins were just what the doctor ordered as the Brewers head to Pittsburgh. Adam and Andrew continue the two-man podcast discussing the series, prospects, and Andrew backtracks on a trade deadline take from the previous podcast.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 77 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Brandon Woodruff 🍺
Welcome back Big Woo! Brandon Woodruff was stellar in his return from the injured list. Woodruff went five innings, struck out 10, and only allowed one run. If Woodruff is this dominant for the rest of the season the Brewers will have a pair of aces at the top of their rotation.
Rowdy Tellez 🍺
Rowdy is really tapping into his power at the moment and it couldn’t be coming at a better time. He hit two long balls in the final game of the series Wednesday afternoon, including one off of the catwalk in right field. He may hate hitting at Tropicana Field, but the results sure seem pretty good.
Christian Yelich 🍺
The leadoff role continues to suit Christian Yelich. Why? Because he gets on base. Yeli played table setter again as he finished the series 4-for-9 with four singles.
Luis Urias 🍺
Luis Urias showed off his power in this series. All hits in his 3-for-8 series went for extra bases, including two home runs. Urias has faced plenty of adversity due to injury this series, but he finally seems to be rounding into midseason form.
Josh Hader 🍺
Hader made two appearances against the Rays. Hader secured two saves against the Rays. Josh Hader ending baseball games is really just a fact of life that opposing teams need to accept. If you see Hader you’ve already lost.
Brad Boxberger 🍺
Brad Boxberger has quietly had a spectacular season for the Brewers. Two scoreless innings in Florida has lowered his ERA to 2.20. Did I say you’ve already lost once you’ve reached Hader? Maybe I should extend that to Boxberger. If you’re losing to the Brewers in the 7th inning then good luck.
Jonathan Davis 🍺
Jonathan Davis made one of the best catches I’ve ever seen on Wednesday afternoon. Davis full on laid out into the wall in centerfield while making a spectacular catch, scaring Brewers fans and players alike. Davis remained in the game briefly before being removed. If anyone ever questions his toughness I will gladly fist fight them.
