Brewers slip up against Marlins in disappointing series in Miami
I wanted a fish fry, but it was not on the menu.
It was not a fun week near the water for the Milwaukee Brewers in South Beach. The Brewers went into Miami hoping for a sweep, but instead they dropped two of three games against the pitiful Marlins.
The series got off on the wrong foot when Joe Ross had to exit Monday’s series opener after just one inning due to a lower back strain. The bullpen performed admirably until the 9th inning when some soft contact led to an unfortunate blown save by Trevor Megill. After failing to score in the top of the 10th, the Brewers would fall 3-2 thanks to a Josh Bell walk-off single.
Game 2 saw a bounce back from The Crew. Robert Gasser gave six quality innings to save the bullpen from back to back days of heavy work, but the Brewers still found themselves down 5-4 in the 8th inning. A two-RBI Christian Yelich triple and a Willy Adames double driving in Yelich flipped the game on its head and Milwaukee came away with a 7-5 victory.
In Wednesday’s finale, the Brewers got a welcome return to form from Freddy Peralta. Peralta allowed a homer to Jazz Chisolm to leadoff the bottom of the first, but that was the only run he would allow in seven innings of work. Sadly, Jesus Luzardo pitched even better, throwing eight shutout innings in a 1-0 Miami win.
Milwaukee will finish off this seemingly endless roadtrip with three games at historic Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox. This is all leading up to Craig Counsell’s Memorial Day return to Milwaukee. Can’t wait.
