Brewers send Craig Counsell back to Chicago to fly the L with boos ringing in his ears
Are you not entertained?
It was a lovely week for Milwaukee Brewers baseball in the best summer city in America (or maybe the world). The Brewers welcomed former manager Craig Counsell back to town with a chorus of boos and domination on the field.
Memorial Day’s Robert Gasser vs. Justin Steele pitcher’s duel ended with a 5-1 Milwaukee win, largely thanks to a five-run bottom of the 8th inning that was capped off by a Willy Adames three-run homer.
The Cubs grabbed their only win of the series on Tuesday night. More heroics by Willy Adames were undone by an unfortunate Mike Tauchman line drive off of Trevor Megill’s arm. A run scored on the play, but thankfully it looks like Megill is going to be okay. The Cubs tacked on a few more and outlasted the Brewers for a 6-3 10th inning win.
Wednesday evening saw the Brewers do some damage to Shota Imanaga’s ERA in a 10-6 win that was more of a beatdown than the final margin might indicate. Thursday’s afternoon finale included the Colin Rea special, Sal Frelick’s superman slide into home, and a dramatic Gary Sanchez go-ahead homer in the bottom of the 8th inning. The 6-4 win sent Craig Counsell and his Cubbies back to Chicago with tears in their eyes.
Next up, the Brewers will welcome the White Sox to town in another meeting with a foe from Chicago.
