Brewers refuse to go Sweepless in Seattle as they prepare to return home after a dominant road trip
The entire world is a floor when you're a broom.
Brewers fans are getting out the brooms again. The Milwaukee Brewers have swept the Seattle Mariners to close out what was supposed to be a daunting west coast road trip.
Instead, the Brewers wreaked havoc on both the Mariners and the San Diego Padres. Sure, the Arizona Diamondbacks won two out of three games against The Crew, but they more than made up for it by going 7-3 overall.
Through 19 games, Milwaukee has put together a 14-5 record. They’re tied for the best record in the National League and second best in all of MLB.
The Brewers have an off day on Thursday before returning home to American Family Field for a longterm stay. This weekend sees the Boston Red Sox come to town and the home-stand will finish with three games against the Detroit Tigers and three games against the Los Angeles Angels.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 19 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Eric Lauer 🍺🍺
With a tired bullpen Eric Lauer gave Craig Counsell some much needed length, as he pitched deep into Wednesday afternoon’s game. Lauer went 7.2 innings and allowed just two runs on a Julio Rodriguez homer. The value of those added innings call for an extra beer.
Hoby Milner 🍺
Hoby Milner bounced back from a tough series against the Padres. In Seattle, Milner threw 2.1 scoreless innings and allowed only a single baserunner on a walk.
Joel Payamps 🍺
Joel Payamps has quietly put together a great start to the season. Across eight innings he now has a 2.25 ERA. We will also retroactively reward Payamps a beer for his work against the Padres. An oversight from management (Andrew) led to us forgetting him last week. The leaderboard has been updated to reflect this change.
Matt Bush 🍺
Matt Bush allowed a homer to Julio Rodriguez on Monday, but was then lights out. He struck out the side in a scoreless inning on Tuesday, then came into a bases loaded situation on Wednesday. On his third consecutive day of work, Bush induced two pop-outs to nail down the win.
Bryse Wilson 🍺
Bryse Wilson is now one beer shy of a six pack. He just keeps doing his job. This week saw him finish off an extra inning game with a scoreless 11th inning. It got a little rocky, but results are results.
Devin Williams🍺
Another scoreless inning for Devin Williams? Yep, that makes sense. That makes six scoreless innings to start the season. He’s struck out 11 batters over that span to bring his current strikeouts per nine ratio to a team leading 16.5.
Christian Yelich 🍺
Yelich did his damage in Game 2 of this series. He led off the game with an opposite field homer, before adding a pair of singles in the victory.
Brian Anderson🍺
Brian Anderson’s best work came during Monday’s game. Anderson finished the contest 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. He has slumped here and there, but Anderson has turned out to be a valuable contributor to the Brewers thus far.
Willy Adames 🍺
Willy Adames drove in half the Brewers runs on Tuesday. His homer in the 6th leveled the score and he also drove in the winning run with an 11th inning RBI groundout. It wasn’t the flashiest series, but Adames put together winning at-bats in that game, that’s for sure.
