We knew the Arizona Diamondbacks would be a difficult test for the Brewers, especially when we saw Zac Gallen as a probable pitcher, and that proved to be true over the course of three games this week.
Monday’s series opener was nearly over from the words “play ball”. Corbin Burnes allowed six earned runs in the first inning and the Brewers’ bats could not overcome that early deficit.
Tuesday was much more fun. The Crew scored four runs in the 7th inning to take hold of a game in which they trailed early. They overcame a 4-0 deficit to eventually win 7-5.
On Wednesday afternoon’s series finale Julio Teheran stood toe to toe with Zac Gallen, but the bullpen couldn’t hold a 1-0 lead and Arizona took the series with a 5-1 victory.
Up next is a 10-game road swing for Milwaukee. They’ll start with three games in Cleveland against the Guardians.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 74 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Julio Teheran🍺
Julio Teheran has done it again. This time it wasn’t easy, Teheran scattered four walks and two hits, but he added another scoreless start to the back of his Brewers baseball card. He’s been an incredible addition to a starting rotation that desperately needs innings.
Devin Williams🍺
Devin Williams nailed down the save on Tuesday night. He walked one in the inning, but managed to secure the win anyway. That makes three scoreless outings in a row for Devin following his blown save in Minnesota.
Joel Payamps🍺
Joel Payamps has also compiled three appearances in a row without allowing a run. Payamps pitched a scoreless 8th inning on Tuesday, striking out three of the four batters he faced.
Hoby Milner🍺
Once again we are here to watch Hoby Milner’s ERA drop. Milner didn’t allow an earned run in 1.2 innings pitched, which brings his ERA down to 2.83 for the season.
Brian Anderson🍺
It wasn’t flashy, but Brian Anderson lived on the base-paths this week. He finished the series 2-for-10 with a pair of walks. The addition of the walks and an outstanding diving play at third base give him enough for a beverage.
