Brewers land Nick Mears in trade, lose to the Marlins, weigh up options ahead of the deadline
The fish were pesky this weekend, the Brewers add an arm, and much more.
The Milwaukee Brewers had a tough time dealing with the annoying Miami Marlins over the weekend, dropping two of three games to the NL East cellar dwellers.
Freddy Peralta struggled with his command in the series opener, which has been a recurring theme throughout the season. Two first inning homers and a 2nd inning Willy Adames error staked the Marlins to a 5-0 lead they’d never relinquish in a 6-2 win.
Saturday wouldn’t go any better. A Rhys Hoskins three-run homer turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 4th inning, but rough outings from Jared Koenig and Elvis Peguero would be their undoing. Miami came away with a 7-3 lead after Josh Bell’s 7th inning homer off of Peguero and that would be the final score.
Milwaukee would end the series on a high note. After a leadoff homer from Xavier Edwards, things were once again looking a bit shaky, but Jake Bauers followed with two-run homer of his own in the bottom of the 1st to give The Crew an early lead.
Two runs in the 4th inning and two runs in the 5th inning (one of which came on a Jackson Chourio homer) gave the Brewers a comfortable 6-1 lead. The Marlins would add a run in the 7th, but that would be all in a 6-2 Brewers win.
The Brewers also acquired right-handed reliever Nick Mears from the Colorado Rockies over the weekend, as we continue to await more action before Tuesday’s trade deadline. Next on the schedule is finishing out the current homestand with three games against the Atlanta Braves.
