Brewers humiliated in home sweep at the hands of the A’s, upcoming rest day needed for a reset
Can we start that series over?
The Milwaukee Brewers were just swept by the historically bad Oakland Athletics. We joked about it on the podcast, but it actually happened. How are we feeling? To quote noted jackass Pete Campbell "Not great, Bob!”
Friday’s opening game included some regression from Adrian Houser, who was coming off of his best start of the season. Houser allowed five runs across four innings of work and the bats never got going in the 5-2 loss.
Saturday provided a glimmer of hope when a William Contreras solo homer tied things up at 1-1 in the 8th inning. The Athletics would take the lead back in the top of the 10th inning and that was enough to secure the 2-1 win.
Sunday’s series finale saw Freddy Peralta allow a pair of homers in the 4th inning and once again the offense mostly fell silent until a 9th inning comeback came up a little short. Next up is an off day on Monday before a two-game trip to Minnesota to face the Twins.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 66 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Julio Teheran🍺 🍺
Julio Teheran did not disappoint. He’s been outstanding since being signed to fill a hole in the starting rotation. This was Teheran’s best start yet, as he allowed just a single run across seven innings.
Owen Miller🍺
Owen Miller the hit machine keeps on hitting. Miller finished the series 5-for-12 with a walk and one RBI.
Blake Perkins🍺
Blake Perkins put together a good at-bat in a crucial spot in Game 3, but a comeback was not in the cards. Overall he finished 3-for-7 at the plate with one walk, one run, and two RBI.
Hoby Milner🍺
We noted last episode that Hoby Milner had been used rather sparingly of late. That looks to be changing. Milner provided two scoreless innings of work on Friday with a pair of strikeouts. He also recorded two more outs on Sunday in relief of Bryse Wilson.
Elvis Peguero🍺
Is Elvis Peguero the best reliever not named Devin Williams in the Brewers bullpen? Based on recent form he certainly might be. It will be interesting to see if he gets more high leverage opportunities over the next few weeks.
