Brewers hit some homers in series win over the Cubs, Luis Urías ready to return
Milwaukee's offense starts firing, at least temporarily
It’s always nice to beat the Cubs, and that’s exactly what the Brewers did over the weekend in Milwaukee.
Buoyed by two of their three best offensive performances of the season to date, the Brewers put on a home run filled show at AmFam in the series’ first two games, before wrapping it up with a frustrating shutout loss.
With a 15-8 record, things are looking good for the Crew, though, and with Luis Urías now healthy and back with the Brewers, things may only continue to look up from here.
Andrew is finally back stateside too, so we talked through all of that and much more on the latest episode of the pod.
Master Brewer Leaderboard
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Willy Adames 🍺
Picking up where he left off against the Pirates, Adames continues to deliver big plays with both the bat and the glove. Three runs, 2 RBI, a double, and a big home run told the story of another solid series for Willy Adames, who really seems to be moving into top gear.
Christian Yelich 🍺
Home runs in back-to-back games for Yeli is enough to get even the most pessimistic Brewers fan’s attention, as the positive signs continue to be there for Yelich. Consistency remains a major issue, but the power numbers have offered room for encouragement early in the season and it was fantastic to see the former NL MVP put them to full use by going yard on consecutive days. Add in an additional run and 4 RBI overall for the series, and there’s plenty to like here.
Hunter Renfroe 🍺
Hunter Renfroe has flipped a switch and is showcasing opposite field power on a near nightly basis at the moment. Three homers for the series (including a two HR game) make for an eye-catching return for Renfroe, but just as impressive is that all three of those bombs came with two outs. With 5 runs and 5 RBI for the series against the Cubs, Renfroe was making it look easy.
Rowdy Tellez 🍺
If Rowdy Tellez plays, he’s very likely to get on base or bat in some important runs. That’s been the story of the season so far, and yet he still ranks just sixth on the Brewers in plate appearances. In this series, Rowdy was 3-for-8, and delivered three runs including a COLOSSAL homer. He remains at the top of the list of the Brewers’ most consistent players so far this season.
Adrian Houser 🍺
A very, very tidy six innings and 101 pitches for Adrian Houser as he got the kind of run support that Brewers starting pitchers can usually only dream of. Houser allowed just two hits and three walks in his shutout six inning stretch, throwing six strikeouts for good measure too.
Eric Lauer 🍺
The zoom ball was in full effect as Eric Lauer proved his career-best strikeout game last week was not purely down to Angel Hernandez. Lauer backed up that high mark with an excellent 11 Ks, as he gave up just five hits, a walk and an earned run in seven innings. He continues to look more and more formidable every time he takes to the mound.
