Brewers get the brooms out for Cleveland, move 20 games above .500

Break out the brooms, Brew Crew!

Make it a weekend sweep for the Milwaukee Brewers as they finished off 10 consecutive games at home by sweeping the Cleveland Guardians. Milwaukee’s pitching dominated the series, but the bats broke out early in Game 1 by scoring five runs across the first four innings. Aaron Civale responded by tossing six shutout innings, and despite a rough spell from Bryse Wilson, the Brewers held on for a 5-3 win.

In Game 2 Freddy Peralta traded velocity for command and it seemed to do the trick. Freddy allowed just one run in six innings before giving way to the shutdown trio of Joel Payamps, Jared Koenig, and Devin Williams. When the dust settled The Crew secured the 2-1 victory.

Colin Rea did Colin Rea things on Sunday afternoon. A Willy Adames RBI single in the first and an Eric Haase RBI groundout in the second was more than enough offense for Milwaukee’s pitchers.

Rea bounced back from his tough start against the Dodgers by throwing seven shutout innings against Cleveland. This time Bryan Hudson and Jared Koenig finished things off. Of course, back in Spring Training, this was exactly the trio of pitchers we all expected to combine to throw a shutout against a first place team (don’t fact check that).

Next on the schedule is a trip to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals.
