Brewers get the best of Ohtani and Trout in home series as Angels continue to baffle
The Brew Crew finished April with a series win
The first full month of the baseball season is over and the Milwaukee Brewers have done quite well for themselves. At 18-10 they have the third best record in the National League and the fifth best record in MLB.
This past weekend saw them matched up against Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and the Los Angeles Angels. The series was a success for the Brew Crew, as they took the first two games before falling in the series finale.
May Day was an off day for the Brewers and now they’ll hit the road. Next on the agenda is three games in Denver against the Colorado Rockies and three games in San Francisco against the Giants.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 28 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Corbin Burnes 🍺
Corbin Burnes recovered from a tough first inning to turn in a fine effort against the Angels. He worked six innings with five hits, one walk, and one run allowed. He struck out five batters and lowered his season ERA to 4.01.
Wade Miley 🍺
How long can Wade Miley keep this up? His six innings with just a single run allowed against the Angels brings his season ERA down to 1.86 across 29 innings. He’s been incredible.
Colin Rea🍺
This might have been Colin Rea’s best start of the season. He provided the five innings and two runs allowed type of performance you’d expect from him, but this time he added a career high nine strikeouts.
Jake Cousins🍺
Jake Cousins continued his scoreless return to the Brewers bullpen. He threw 1.1 innings against Los Angeles, getting Mike Trout out in the process. Is Cousins back with the Brewers to stay? So far, so good.
Tyson Miller🍺
It was a perfect Milwaukee Brewers debut for Tyson Miller. He worked two scoreless innings on Sunday with no walks, no hits, no runs, and a pair of strikeouts.
Devin Williams🍺
Devin Williams still hasn’t allowed a run this season. You know the rules, that means he gets a beer. He recorded two saves in the series, one on Friday night and one on Saturday as he helped stop the bleeding after a pair of Mike Trout homers made things interesting.
Peter Strzelecki🍺
Peter Strzelecki remains the most consistent reliever in the bullpen not named Devin Williams. He fired two scoreless innings against the Angels, bringing his season ERA down to 0.66.
Rowdy Tellez 🍺
Rowdy Tellez came through when the Brewers needed him most on Friday night. His ground-ball single through the right side of the infield gave the Brewers a 2-1 lead that Devin Williams would eventually close out. Tellez was 3-for-7 in the series overall and provided some comic relief during a moment in the game where the Angels tried to pick him off of second base.
Owen Miller 🍺
Owen Miller has turned into a reliable depth piece for the Brewers. Facing three left-handed pitchers in a row meant he started every game of this series in place of Brice Turang. He finished the series 2-for-9 with a pair of walks and he played solid defense at second base. That’s all you can ask for from your utility guy.
Joey Wiemer 🍺
Joey Wiemer’s offensive production has been up and down, but he has turned out to be an outstanding defender in center field. The unfortunate loss of Garrett Mitchell from the outfield mix meant somebody had to slide into that role and Wiemer has passed his early tests with flying colors. At the plate against the Angels he finished 2-for-9 with two walks and a double.
