Brewers get slapped by Will Smith in series loss to the Dodgers

The stars were out in La La Land.

The Milwaukee Brewers dropped two of three games against the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend to complete a 3-4 western road trip. Aaron Civale showed some good signs in his Brewers debut, but the power of the Dodgers lineup was too much to overcome.

Will Smith homered three times, Miguel Vargas added in a two-run shot for good measure, and Freddie Freeman’s bases loaded single broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the 8th inning. In the end, the Dodgers came away with a 8-5 win.

Saturday featured a laborious start from Freddy Peralta, but the Brewers once again were in the game late. 8th inning homers from the aforementioned Miguel Vargas and Shohei Ohtani broke a 3-3 tie, helping secure a 5-3 Dodgers win. Oh yeah, Will Smith started the bottom of the 1st with yet another homer. It really did feel like the 94th Academy Awards.

The Brewers salvaged Sunday’s finale thanks to 4 and 1/3 innings of scoreless tightrope walking from Dallas Keuchel and the relentless offense we’ve come to expect from this Brewers lineup. Milwaukee exited LA with a 9-2 win and will now return home to face the Pittsburgh Pirates.
