Brewers fall 2-1 to Astros in Houston, Contreras delivers AB of the season against Verlander
Houston we have a problem? Not really, but it wasn't fun.
It was a tough series for the Milwaukee Brewers down in Houston. The Brewers lost two of three games to the suddenly red hot Astros.
Friday’s series opener saw Freddy Peralta get touched up for five runs in five innings. Joey Ortiz’s 4th inning homer put The Crew up 4-2, but Jeremy Pena answered with a three-run homer of his own in the bottom of the 5th to make it 5-4 Astros. That would end the scoring and Houston’s bullpen would put up zeroes to secure the win.
The Brewers bounced back in Saturday evening’s game with a solid outing from Bryse Wilson, a dominant bullpen, and the best plate appearance of the season. William Contreras punctuated a 13 pitch at-bat with a three-run homer, which turned a 1-1 tie into a 4-1 Milwaukee lead. In the end, the Brewers would come away with a 4-2 win.
Sunday afternoon’s finale was filled with more struggle. A four-run first inning put the Astros in control of the game, but as they do, the Brewers clawed back to reduce the deficit to 6-4 after the top of the 7th. Some late insurance runs from Houston ended any hopes of a comeback and the game would end 9-4 to the bad guys.
The road trip is not done, the Brewers will dust themselves off and head east for three games against the Miami Marlins.
