Brewers emerge from Cleveland with series win helped by Miller’s revenge
Owen Miller was rude to his old team and we loved it
We love a series win, don’t we folks? The Milwaukee Brewers went into Cleveland and took two out of three games against the Guardians in what was a great bounce back from the series loss to the Diamondbacks.
Friday saw Willy Adames put on a show at the plate in a 7-1 win, while Saturday saw a 2-0 lead slip away in a 4-2 loss. The Crew then battled to win the series finale in extra innings, as Owen Miller doubled home Joey Wiemer to give Milwaukee a lead they’d not relinquish.
The daunting road trip rolls into New York next. The Brewers will face the struggling New York Mets for four games this week. They may not be playing well, but considering the names in the starting rotation, we can be sure that the Brewers are not taking them lightly.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 77 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Wade Miley🍺
Wade Miley made tidy work of the Guardians on Friday. He needed just 67 pitches to get through six scoreless innings. Miley allowed just three hits and didn’t walk anyone as he guided The Crew to victory.
Devin Williams🍺
It was another dominant outing for Devin Williams, who continues to showcase himself as one of the best relievers in baseball. His scoreless 9th inning on Sunday got the game to extra innings where the Brewers would eventually put themselves ahead.
Joel Payamps🍺
Joel Payamps worked a pair of scoreless innings on Sunday, stabilizing the middle innings after the Guardians erased Milwaukee’s 4-1 lead in the 6th inning.
Elvis Peguero🍺
Anytime you come into the bottom of the 10th inning and are able to nail down a save you get a beer. Peguero managed to keep the zombie runner from scoring on Sunday to clinch the series, which is no small task in the modern extra innings world we live in.
Willy Adames🍺
Willy Adames had a monster performance Friday night. Overall in the series Willy went 4-for-13 with a walk, a double, two homers, two runs, and five RBI. He was the source of nearly all their offensive output that night. Could he be on the verge of breaking out of his slump?
Christian Yelich🍺
Christian Yelch has been Mr. Reliable lately. This series was no different. Yelich reached base six times across three games, scored three runs, and drove in two runs. It’s not the MVP level Yelich of old, but the quiet consistency is appreciated.
William Contreras🍺
Another model of consistency lately has been William Contreras. He played in two of the three games in Cleveland and ended his weekend 3-for-8 with two runs scored and one RBI.
