Brewers drop a series to the Cardinals, remain in formidable position all the same

The St. Louis Cardinals were up to their evil tricks this week.

After a run of excellent results, this week was a week to forget for our Milwaukee Brewers. They went into St. Louis and dropped two of three games to the Cardinals thanks to a cooled off offense and a bullpen blowup.

Game 1 was the lone bright spot. Frankie Montas turned in his best performance as a Brewer with seven shutout innings in a 3-2 win. In Game 2, Devin Williams blew his first save of the season in a game that would eventually end on a Nolan Arenado walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning.

The bats fell completely silent in Thursday’s finale and a disastrous 7th inning led to a 3-0 loss. At least Tuesday’s win wrapped up the season series for Milwaukee.

The Brewers will now head to Oakland to face the Athletics, who have been surprisingly competent since the All-Star break. We’ll see if The Crew can get back on the right track to keep themselves in the mix for a top two seed in the National League.
