The Milwaukee Brewers finished a stretch of 18 games in 17 days by losing three of four to the San Diego Padres. Thursday’s thrilling win was the highlight, as the Crew scored four runs in the 9th inning to complete the comeback win. The rest of the series was less than ideal.
Monday provides a much needed off day, giving the team a chance to rest and get healthy. Tuesday should see the return of Willy Adames and Hunter Renfroe, bolstering the lineup and both the infield and outfield defense.
Next up on the schedule is a three-game home series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Ready your ears for a series recap, a look ahead, and a fierce debate on the merits of a fielder’s choice.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 56 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Kolten Wong 🍺
Wong tried to win the game all by himself on Sunday afternoon. He led off the game with a solo homer and launched a two-run shot to tie the game in the bottom of the 8th. Wong also broke up Joe Musgrove’s no-hit bid with a double on Friday night.
Rowdy Tellez 🍺
Rowdy lived on base this series, but his teammates had trouble getting him home. A 4-for-15 performance with the bat was further enhanced by two walks. Everyone’s favorite first baseman also contributed to a stellar Jace Peterson defensive play on Sunday. The man can do it all.
Luke Barker 🍺
Luke Barker turned in an excellent MLB debut in an otherwise forgettable game. Barker pitched two scoreless innings on Friday night and added his first career strikeout. Barker providing stability in the middle innings would be a huge development for the bullpen.
Jace Peterson 🍺
Jace Peterson’s trend of providing clutch hits continued against the Padres. On Thursday night he capped off a 2-for 3 day with a game tying triple in the bottom the 9th inning. His .434 slugging percentage is by far the highest of his career, if this power surge is sustained he could be in for a career best season.
Peter Strzelecki 🍺
In his major league debut, Strzelecki secured the win for the Brewers by pitching 2 innings with one run allowed and three strikeouts. It may not have been the most sparkling of relief outings, but his performance was key in keeping the team in the game and buying an off day for some of the Brewers’ other bullpen arms.
