This series was a tough one for our beloved Milwaukee Brewers, especially on the heels of having been swept by the Atlanta Braves. The Brewers went into Washington D.C. this week and dropped two out of three games to the Washington Nationals.
Monday saw a good Corbin Burnes effort wasted when the bats only could muster three runs and Elvis Peguero let a 7th inning lead slip away.
They bounced back Tuesday with a good performance that saw Brice Turang and Joey Wiemer put together a pair of clutch at-bats back to back. Sal Frelick added a pair of outfield assists for good measure. Not a bad day to be a rookie.
The finale once again saw the lineup fail to cash in on opportunities with runners on base and a 9th inning defensive meltdown helped the Nationals walk it off with a 3-2 win. Next up, the Pittsburgh Pirates come to Milwaukee for a four-game series.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 109 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Joel Payamps🍺
Joel Payamps had a tough outing against the Atlanta Braves where he allowed a two-run homer to Matt Olson, but he has immediately put that behind him. Payamps threw a pair of scoreless innings against Washington, placing his ERA back under 2.00.
Bryse Wilson🍺
Bryse Wilson was also a member of the bounce back bullpen club. Wilson threw 2.1 scoreless innings of relief across two games.
Wade Miley🍺
Wade Miley made his return to the Brewers starting rotation on Wednesday and did his job as assigned. While on a limited pitch count, Miley worked four innings and allowed just a single run. The exclamation point on the outing was a strikeout of Alex Call in the fourth inning to get out of a bases loaded jam.
Corbin Burnes🍺
It wasn’t his finest outing, but Corbin Burnes was rock solid against the Nationals. He turned in a quality start, allowing just two runs over six innings of work.
William Contreras🍺
William Contreras provided some big hits in the series. Overall he finished 3-for-12 with two RBI and a pair of doubles.
Brice Turang🍺
Brice Turang had yet another good series as he tries to find some consistency at the plate. Turang went 3-for-8 at the plate with a walk, three runs scored, and two RBI.
Joey Wiemer🍺
Turang’s fellow rookie Joey Wiemer also had a nice series. Wiemer went 3-for-11 with a homer, one run scored, and three RBI. He also played great defensively on Wednesday, as he tracked down balls all across centerfield.
