Brewers down to their final three outs for the 2022 season after series loss to Miami Marlins
Let's play three more and see what happens.
It’s not over yet, but it sure feels over. The Milwaukee Brewers need a miracle to make the playoffs now. After losing three out of four games against the Miami Marlins, The Crew now face a two game gap between themselves and the Philadelphia Phillies for the final NL Wild Card spot.
What happens next is all pretty simple. If the Brewers sweep the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Houston Astros sweep the Phillies then the Brewers will make the playoffs. Any other combination of results sends Philadelphia to the playoffs and Milwaukee to an early offseason.
Is a miracle in the cards? We’re skeptical, but we’ll be watching until the end anyway. Adam and Andrew recap the series, talk about what’s gone wrong, and hope for the aforementioned miracle.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 159 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Corbin Burnes 🍺 🍺
Corbin Burnes had what was possibly his best performance of the season when the Brewers needed it most. Burnes fired eight scoreless innings on Friday night to out-duel NL Cy Young frontrunner Sandy Alcantara. The Crew needed every single one of those scoreless innings, as the offense only mustered one run in the 1-0 win.
Eric Lauer 🍺
Eric Lauer looked like his early season self on Thursday night. Lauer struck out nine Marlins over five scoreless innings. Unfortunately an Avisail Garcia 8th inning grand slam led to a 4-2 Brewers loss and distracted from Lauer’s exceptional performance.
Brent Suter 🍺
Suter’s two innings on Sunday helped keep the Brewers in the game (despite allowing a ghost runner to score), but unfortunately it wasn’t enough. Suter allowed no earned runs with one hit and one walk.
Trevor Gott 🍺
Gott provided some solid relief work this weekend. He only allowed a Manfred Man to score, but otherwise was tremendous. Gott is a player who could be a valuable returnee in the bullpen.
Brad Boxberger 🍺
Add Brad Boxbeger to the list of relievers who stepped up. Box pitched two innings with no hits, no walks, no runs, and one strikeout.
Matt Bush 🍺
Bush similarly provided a pair of great outings. Bush pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball with one strikeout. Bush has struggled since being acquired from the Texas Rangers, but there’s reason for optimism that the 2023 version of Matt Bush will perform much better.
