The Milwaukee Brewers’ offense is on fire. Sure, the Cincinnati Reds are the worst team in baseball, but any time you score 34 runs and hit 11 homers across three games it’s a reason to celebrate. The Brewers completed a clean sweep of the Reds in Milwaukee, giving them eight wins in nine games during this stretch of three straight series against division rivals.
The Brew Crew now find themselves with an 18-8 record and a 2.5 game lead in the NL Central over the St. Louis Cardinals. The vibes are immaculate, folks.
Now it’s time for some revenge. The team that knocked the Brewers out of the playoffs last season, the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves, are next up on the schedule. A series win in Atlanta would assert Milwaukee as an early force to be reckoned with in the National League.
Master Brewer Leaderboard
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Rowdy Tellez 🍻
Rowdy Tellez is our first recipient of two Master Brew points! The big guy earned it. In the second game of the series, Tellez set the single game franchise RBI record by driving in eight runs. Overall he went 7-for-15 with 3 doubles, 3 homers, 10 RBI, and 3 runs scored. Rowdy’s .966 OPS leads the team as he continues to assert himself as the most prominent power hitter and run producer in the lineup. Build the Rowdy statue, give him a lifetime contract. Could he also be in the mix with the likes of Freddie Freeman and Matt Olson for an All-Star Game appearance? Time will tell.
Christian Yelich 🍺
Christian Yelich continues to show positive trends in his batted ball data and the results are coming. According to Baseball Savant, Yelich is in the 95th percentile in exit velocity, 99th percentile in hard hit percentage, and 96th percentile in barrel rate. Yeli is consistently putting good swings on the ball and with that he will always give himself a chance of getting on base. Against the Reds he finished 5-for-11 with 2 doubles, 1 homer, 4 RBI, 6 runs scored, and added a stolen base for good measure.
Willy Adames 🍺
Willy Adames only had three hits in the series, but they were all home-runs. Sources tell me that’s pretty good. He also added 3 walks, 7 RBI, and 6 runs scored while playing his usual quality defense at shortstop. He also broke the celebratory bell in the dugout twice and I don’t blame him. All these runs are exciting!
Luis Urías 🍺
It’s great to have Luis Urías back in lineup, solidifying the third base position (and occasionally second base) and getting on base. Cue the Jonah Hill “Moneyball” meme. Urías had a 4-for-9 series with a homer, 3 walks, 1 hit by pitch, 2 RBI, and 4 runs scored. Urías returning makes this team feel whole and that’s a wonderful development.
Trevor Gott 🍺
As George Strait once sang, “they call me the fireman, that’s my name.” Trevor Gott is Milwaukee’s fireman, stranding baserunners and putting zeroes on the board. Gott threw a pair of scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts in the series, bringing his season ERA down to 1.74. He’s been the signing of the offseason so far and a welcome addition to the bullpen.
