Brewers catch a pair of wins against the Marlins
Fishing for a series win goes well for the Brew Crew.
The Milwaukee Brewers got back to their winning ways this weekend against the Miami Marlins. After dropping two of three in consecutive series against the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds, the Brewers bookended their weekend in Miami with victories.
A 2-1 win in a Corbin Burnes gem started things off on the right foot. Them, after a tough Saturday loss plagued by errors, umpires, and Marlins homers the team bounced back to clinch the series with a 7-3 win.
The Crew are back home this week to play three games against those pesky Atlanta Braves and three games against the Washington Nationals. Will the bullying of NL East opponents continue?
Master Brewer Leaderboard
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Corbin Burnes 🍺
The reigning NL Cy Young winner once again showed why he is in the discussion for the best pitcher in baseball. Burnes pitched seven innings and allowed just a single run in Milwaukee’s 2-1 win against the Marlins on Friday evening. He added eight strikeouts for good measure, you know, just for fun. Burnes’ season ERA has settled at 1.77 in seven starts. Could another CY Young be in the cards? I wouldn’t bet against Burnes.
Aaron Ashby 🍺
Aaron Ashby bounced back from his disappointing start against the Atlanta Braves last weekend. Ashby was dialed in as he relieved Brandon Woodruff against the Marlins, the southpaw threw four innings of hitless baseball and struck out eight batters. Having Ashby as a multi-inning reliever is incredibly valuable to this Brewers team. These type of outings provide rest for the rest of the bullpen and baffle opposing hitters. Oh, you just faced Brandon Woodruff for five innings? Now here’s Aaron Ashby throwing 99 MPH with a wipeout slider. Good luck to hitters everywhere.
Jace Peterson 🍺
After a rough start to the season Jace Peterson sees himself find the Master Brewer leaderboard for the second consecutive series. Jace got on base and was a Swiss Army Knife on defense, proving once again why he is a versatile bench piece for Craig Counsell. His bases loaded walk put the Brewers ahead 2-1 in the 9th inning of Friday night’s contest, which helped them secure the win.
Kolten Wong 🍺
Kolten Wong’s series performance may have gone a little under the radar, but he certainly earned this beer emoji. In Game 1 he launched a leadoff homer into the LoanDepot Park stands and his Sunday was one to remember. He reached base in every plate appearance with a homer, a single, and three walks.
