Brewers best the Braves in back and forth series thanks to a Keston Hiura walk-off homer
There's nothing like extra inning drama to spice up a series.
The Milwaukee Brewers took two of three games from the Atlanta Braves this week to give them back to back series wins over NL East opponents.
Game 1 featured a pitcher’s duel between Freddy Peralta and Ian Anderson. Peralta dominated with seven innings of scoreless baseball, Anderson allowed just a single run on a wild pitch, and the combination of Devin Williams and Josh Hader locked things down to give Milwaukee the 1-0 win.
The Brewers were the team that would get shutout in Game 2, as the bats went cold while Atlanta completed a 3-0 win.
Then, Game 3 created enough drama to give Brewers fans heartburn for weeks to come. A three-run homer from Austin Riley and a solo shot from Marcel Ozuna staked the Braves to a 4-0 lead, but the Brewers would battle back to tie the game on a dramatic Kolten Wong triple with two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning. After going down 6-5 in the 11th inning, Keston Hiura came to the plate. Hiura would proceed to crush a baseball over the wall in dead center field to give the Brewers their most exciting win of the season 7-6.
The Brewers now play their final three home games of May this weekend against the Washington Nationals before heading out on an 11-game road trip.
Master Brewer Leaderboard
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Freddy Peralta 🍺
Peralta completed arguably the most dominant starting pitching performance of the Brewers season on Monday night. Peralta’s line of seven innings pitched, two hits, one walk, and 10 strikeouts was essential in Milwaukee’s tight 1-0 win. Peralta’s season is definitely trending in a positive direction.
Hunter Renfroe 🍺
Renfroe reached base at least twice in every game this series and made some key plays in the outfield. The Mississippi State legend went 5-for-9 with two walks, two doubles, one RBI, and two runs scored. Renfroe’s season batting line is up to .250/.289/.508. His .796 OPS is now third highest on the team.
Devin Williams 🍺
Devin Williams was as locked in as a reliever can be this series. Williams pitched a pair of scoreless/hitless innings with six strikeouts. After some tough outings early in the season Williams has settled back into his role as a lockdown reliever at the backend of games.
Keston Hiura 🍺
What a day for Keston Hiura. In his first start since being recalled from Nashville, while battling the flu, he won Game 3 of the series against the Braves with an 11th inning two-run walk-off homer. Hiura has struggled to get at-bats this season, but perhaps this moment will jumpstart things for him.
