Brewers beat the Reds, celebrate Rock, and impress Snoop
The Brewers have their mind on their money and their money on their mind
The Milwaukee Brewers have won their third series in a row thanks to a pair of weekend wins against the Cincinnati Reds. Friday’s series opener was a heartbreaker, even as the Reds desperately tried to hand Milwaukee the game.
In the bottom of the 9th inning an Elly De La Cruz error, a Joey Ortiz bases loaded walk, and a Jackson Chourio single that saw Jake Bauers get cut down at the place resulted in a situation that gave the Brewers runners on second and third with two outs trailing by just a run. The chance would slip away when Blake Perkins’ popped up bunt ended the game.
The highlight of the game was the Bally Sports tribute to Bill “Rock” Schroeder, which included visits from his previous broadcast partners across 30 years of Brewers baseball. It was incredibly well done and a joy to watch/hear.
Game 2 provided a happier ending. Nice work from Bryse Wilson and a Joey Ortiz three-run homer helped Milwaukee nail down a 3-1 win. Also, Snoop Dogg threw out first pitch and joined the Bally team in the booth. It was delightful.
Sunday’s getaway day game completed the redemption arc for Blake Perkins, but first a Willy Adames three-run homer in the bottom of the 6th turned a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 Brewers lead.
The Brewers were clinging to a 5-4 lead with two outs in the bottom of the 9th when a Santiago Espinal single sent Stuart Fairchild scrambling towards home plate to try and tie things up. Blake Perkins made sure that didn’t happen, as he uncorked a perfect throw to William Contreras who would tag out Fairchild to complete the victory. Play “Glory Days”.
Next up, the Brewers will head west for three games against the Los Angeles Angels and four games against the San Diego Padres.
