Brewers avoid sweep against the Giants in series that will be remembered for scary Willy Adames moment
Turn the page and move on
The Baseball Gods are finding new ways to mess with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers lost the first three games of their series against the San Francisco Giants, but this series will be remembered for a scary moment on Friday.
In the second inning of Friday’s game Brian Anderson’s foul ball struck Willy Adames in the head. It was frightening for the players, the fans in attendance, and obviously Adames himself. All seems like it’s going to be okay for Adames, he’s now on the seven day concussion IL, but disaster appears to have been averted. Get well soon, Willy!
The Brewers would close the series with a 7-5 win as they maintain their first place position in the NL Central. Next up on the schedule is a trip to Toronto to face the Blue Jays.
Master Brewer Leaderboard (through 53 games)
(The Master Brewer Leaderboard is a season-long leaderboard tracking and ranking exceptional performances from Brewers players in the form of Master Brew Points 🍺, which at the end of the season will tally up to crown our Crewsing for a Brewsing Player of the Year.)
Corbin Burnes 🍺
Corbin Burnes looked like an ace again this series. He pitched around a difficult first inning to complete seven innings with only one run allowed. His emotional reaction after getting through the 7th inning shows how much getting back on track means to Burnes.
Devin Williams 🍺
Craig Counsell hasn’t had to use Devin Williams very much lately, that’s not ideal, but the silver lining on Sunday was that Counsell was again able to turn to Devin for a four-out save. Williams struck out three Giants to close out the game and end the series on a positive note.
Colin Rea 🍺
Colin Rea was excellent through his first six innings of work. Craig Counsell maybe asked a little bit too much of the journeyman starter by sending him out for the 7th inning. Nevertheless, it was another job well done from Rea.
Julio Teheran 🍺
The surprise of the series was a great first start by new signing Julio Teheran. It wasn’t dominant, but he did his job. Teheran allowed just a single run in five innings of work with five strikeouts. Teheran definitely earned another turn through the rotation.
Trevor Megill 🍺
What have we learned through Trevor Megill’s first handful of appearances this season? He throws gas! He’s thrown 64 fastballs this season and his average fastball has been 98.6 miles per hour. Megill used that heat to record 2.1 scoreless innings against the Giants.
William Contreras 🍺
William Contreras once again briefly tapped into some of the power at the plate he showed in Atlanta. Contreras ended his series 2-for-7 with a homer, a walk, two runs, and three RBI. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
Owen Miller🍺
It wasn’t quite the blisteringly hot series we’ve seen from Miller lately, but he got the job done. Miller finished the series 2-for-11 with two walks, a hit by pitch, two runs, and two RBI.
Brian Anderson🍺
Brian Anderson played in all four games against San Francisco and he managed to record four hits. Anderson’s 4-for-15 series included a walk, two doubles, and two RBI. His defense at third base also remains a positive for this team.
